We went to the park today, and I indulged in proper playtime. I did the swings and slide, the roundabout and, wait for it, I rolled down a hill!
Do you remember doing that as a kid? Finding a great big, grassy hill and rolling down it like a sausage? I do. It was something I did regularly as a kid. We had rolling races, we would link up and see if you could stay linked all the way down. It was so much fun and the steeper the hill the better, you could really get some speed up.
Well, today I spotted a fab ‘rolling hill’. Up I climbed, Little miss in tow, we were going to roll to the bottom.
However, as a not-far-off-30-year-old I suddenly feared the roll. Should I do it? Bit silly really isn’t it, to roll down a hill?
“Go on mummy. We’ll go together,” shouts Little miss. So, I take a deep breath and go for it.
I roll, faster and faster,
ouch the ground’s rather bumpy,
eeep am I ever going to stop?!
Don’t worry, I did stop. Ouch that hurt more than I ever remember it doing when I was a kid. My body didn’t appreciate that. My head feels a bit frazzled. But oh my, I can’t stop laughing. I’m overcome with the giggles. I may well ache in the morning, but wow that was fun. I rolled down a hill! Little miss however, did not. No, the Little scallywag rolled a little and then decided to watch me plummet to the bottom instead! Little dude appeared a little perplexed (as did Hubs). But it was FUN!
I think it’s important to let yourself go occasionally and remember what it felt like to be a kid. I don’t do it enough. I’m far too uptight 99% of the time. But, I remembered today what it’s like to just go for it and be silly. Note to self: Must be silly with the kiddies more often.
What do you remember doing as a kid that really made you smile? Have you done it recently? Go on, do it!
Right, I’m off to blow some bubbles in my drink. I’ll leave you with me rolling - enjoy!
