Since my post about embarking on the potty training journey, ‘Wees & poos and ‘terrible twos” you could say that our success so far had been variable. However, over the last couple of weeks Little miss has occasionally gone over to her potty and done wees in there without being asked. So, this weekend we decided to bite the bullet and take away the nappies and put her in knickers, all day, we figure if we do this and stick to it she’ll be well on her way to being dry in a week. So, now that day one is over how do I feel about reaching our goal?
Well it’s fair to say that day one reaped few rewards. We were three pairs of knickers and trousers down and three puddles up by midday (we were granted a lie-in and weren’t actually up and about until aout 10am). However the bonus was that Little miss had realised each time that she had done a wee and was quite upset that she was wet. So after some reassuring words and reminding her where she needs to go if she needed the toilet we carried on and decided to venture out to the park. Now, you can’t travel light with a toddler in tow at the best of times, but today was really taking the biscuit. For one trip to the park we were armed with six pairs of knickers and trousers, packs of wipes (x2), a potty, aswell as all the usual toddler bits and pieces. Before we left for the park we asked Little miss if she needed the toilet “No.”, when we got to the park “Do you need the toilet?”, “No.” Sure enough within 10 minutes of play a puddle appeared on the slide (fourth pair of knickers and trousers down) so we quickly got her changed and cleared the puddle from the slide and had another 30 minutes of play.
By 4pm we were hungry and decided to have tea at Morrisons cafe, extremely child-friendly, cheap, and Little miss loves it. However, this is where we cheated. We decided so that we could eat that we’d pop a pair of Pull-Ups on Little miss. We got to Morrisons and asked the golden question for about the hundreth time that day, no she didn’t need the toilet. By the time we got home and I changed her back into a pair of knickers the Pull-Up had at least one wee in it! Now winding down to bed time we popped a DVD on for Little miss and reminded her where to go if she needed the toilet. No joy before bed time.
I had hoped that we would have had at least one wee or poo in the potty or toilet today, but hey-ho tomorrow’s another day.
